Soon after these two groups of corals arose from their presumably spongy ancestors, they attained prominence in our oceans and helped construct reefs with the help of their stable, calcite-based skeletons. Not only is Neptune's diameter nearly four times larger than the Earth's, it is 30 times further from the Sun. The best index fossils are common, easy-to-identify at species level, and have a broad distributionotherwise the likelihood of finding and recognizing one in the two sediments is minor. If the decision were as unrepresentative as you claim, there has been ample opportunity to overturn it. Geologists use both large fossils (called macrofossils) and microscopic fossils (called microfossils) for this process, known as biostratigraphy. Tabulates, subclass or order Tabulata, are extinct corals of anthozoans.
